Real talk here for a sec„
I saw a person who ships Daft Punk say that they understand people being uncomfortable by it but that the 1D fandom never gets criticism for shipping them and everything and it’s ??? first off, hardly anybody complains about the 1D fandom shipping band members bc most people on here realize it’s just common decency not to and don’t even bother starting a discussion about it, because it’s mostly super young teens who would not listen at all and will hopefully learn better in time and the fanbase is massive.
Second: this isn’t about shoving guilt. ‘hey, look! they do it too. I’m not bad’
Nobody is saying you’re an awful human being (if someone does don’t listen to them)
’look at them they do it too and nobody complains’. ANY instance in which two real people are shipped and drawn erotic fanart of is really fetishizing and not good, whether it’s Martin and Benedict, Guy-man and Thomas or those two actors from Supernatural or 1D etc etc: anyone. Please don’t pull a victim card. This is problematic in any instance. You are not worse nor better than people who do it with other bands or actors.
Also, ‘I respect some people are uncomfortable with it’
Your task is not really to respect someone on tumblr being uncomfortable by it, this is about respecting someone’s private life, as harsh as it sounds. This should be obvious, though, and I don’t know why it’s up for debate.
Daft Punk fans on here are usually at least a bit older and should know that Daft Punk umasked should be off limits. The robots are fine if you don’t make it apparent that it’s real people in suits and pretend they’re actual robots, because that’s kind of like an avatar.
But once it comes to the actual people, Daft Punk umasked shipping is an extreme violation of someone’s privacy
If you enjoy flailing about it it’s fine to keep it private and exchange fantasies with your friends who like it, but publishing nsfw fanart of Thomas and Guy-man as regular young men is meddling in someone’s private life and they actually have mentioned slash fanart in an interview and stated that they’re straight
Someone’s sexuality and private life should be respected, even if it seems that as celebrities they’re way too far out of reach to ever see.
Saying that you respect that they have families now and only draw them as young attractive men in the 90s does not excuse this, it’s still not okay
